According to The Rose Acre Farms company, more than 200 million eggs were recalled from nine different states due to salmonella braenderup. The company also reported that these eggs can prove fatal for people, especially young adults. These eggs were distributed by Hyde County, N.C and were distributed to many famous brands like Country Daybreak, Great Value, the Food Lion store and Sunshine Farms.
The Food and Drug Administration website reported that these contaminated eggs were linked to 22 different diseases. The retail store should avoid selling these eggs, said The Rose Acre Farms company.
The company nominated the states of New Jersey, Colorado, North Carolina, Virginia, and Florida to look out for such eggs. The egg cartons that were recalled had a P-1065 plant number and a Julian date of 011 to 102. The Julian date refers to the consecutive days of the year and Julian date range 011 to 102 means that the eggs were manufactured during January 11 to April 12.
The FDA also said that if anyone had recalled the eggs, then they should not eat them. More than 200 million contaminated eggs raised a question, What will happen to these eggs now? The FDA while discussing on these eggs said that their purpose is not to regather all these eggs but to protect the people from using these eggs. Both the FDA and Rose Acre Farms company are encouraging people to either return the eggs to the retail stores or throw them away. Consumers were also warned to clean the utensils that might have come into contact with the eggs.
Located in Seymour, Rose Acre Farms company is the second largest egg producer company in the United States. According to FDA, the investigators found that salmonella bacteria was found in multiple egg dishes and the location of all these eggs was Rose Acre Farms company.
Therefore, FDA has warned the people not to use eggs manufactured by Rose Acre Farms company. Overall 23 cases were registered due to these contaminated eggs and no death was reported. The source of illness of all the 23 people was the contaminated eggs produced by Rose Acre Farms company.
FDA officials also visited the company and collected samples for investigation. After analyzing the sample, it was reported that the same bacteria was found at the company which was found in the people affected by these eggs. After that, a detailed discussion held between the FDA officials and the company in which it was decided that the company will recall the eggs voluntarily from all the retail stores.
The initial investigation was conducted by the FDA on March 15 about Salmonella Braenderup infection. CDC and FDA investigators work together in this case and a useful information they gathered was found from the affected people. Most of those people identified the eggs as the cause of illness. The FDA officials investigated the Rose Acre Farms company from March 26 to April 11 and in this duration, the officials collected many samples from the company’s farm.
FDA confirmed on April 11 that it was confirmed that the sample found from the Rose Acre Farms company matched with the outbreak strain. This matching confirmed that the eggs manufactured by the Rose Acre Farms company were the real cause of the Salmonella Braenderup infection. On this revealing, many companies recalled the eggs manufactured by the company. Cal-Maine Foods recalled the eggs on April 16 manufactured in the farms of Rose Acre company.
Symptoms Of Salmonella Braenderup Infection:
The 23 people affected by the salmonella infection suffered from fever and diarrhea. And the affected people did not take any treatment and recovered within 4 to 7 days. People affected with this infection, start suffering from fever and diarrhea within 12 to 72 hours after the infection.
Diarrhea caused by this infection can sometimes be so dangerous that patient needs to hospitalized. The salmonella infection spreads quickly through veins and blood and can cause death if the patient is not treated with proper antibiotics. Children affected the most by this infection. According to a research, children aged less than five years are more likely to get affected by this infection.
Salmonella infection majorly affects young children and the elderly who have a feeble immune system. According to a study, almost 400 people die per year with the salmonella infection.
